Tassel Dazzle

September 2011

Tassel Dazzle was an exhibition and charity auction that was conceived in honor of Spina’s ten year anniversary in September 2011. Specializing the art form of passementerie, Spina creates innovative and luxurious accents and detailing for interiors. It was only fitting that they would want to create an event that not only gave back to the community but also revolved around the artful form of the tassel!

Thirty-two creative individuals were presented with one of Spina’s tassels as a blank canvas to embellish and transform. With backgrounds in art, design, fashion, music and other creative pursuits, each participant has crafted a unique works of art. Highlights included a light tassel by Rolf Sachs, an inside out tassel stool by Nigel Coates and a birdcage tassel by Nina Campbell.

An exhibition as well as a charity event, the installation had to flawless integrate both important work from Spina’s collection paired with the artistic creations. At 3 meters in height, Gargantua tassel was the focal point of the room. The charity tassels were presented in perspex display cases in order to differentiate them from the rest of the collection.

Partnering with 1508 London, the event culminated in a charity auction where the proceeds from the sales of these works went in benefit Kids Company, helping disadvantageous youth in London.
